Team Rubicon’s mission is to bridge the gap between between non profit and government-funded disaster relief by offering returning Veterans an opportunity to continue service after taking off the uniform. Veterans and organized into teams and sent to help pick up the pieces when Mother Nature acts a fool. They also are strong advocates of better mental health for Veterans. Serve A Year!
The Serve A Year campaign was launched early 2015 by the Clinton Foundation. Spearheaded by Chelsea Clinton and her trusty sidekick Jimmy Kimmel, the concept is serving a year is simple. Spend one year of your life serving your community after high school or college. You don’t have to travel 5,000 miles away to make a difference. AmeriCorps is a civil society program funded by the federal government during the Clinton Administration under the National & Community Service Trust Act of 1993. AmeriCorps engages more than 75,000 Americans volunteering each year at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community-based groups across the United States. Since the program’s founding in 1994, more than 900,000 AmeriCorps members have contributed more than 1.2 billion hours in service across America mobilizing millions of volunteers for the organizations they serve! Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is an international, non-profit NGO , which was founded in 1976. Habitat has been devoted to building “simple, decent, and affordable” housing to low-income families. Homes are built using volunteer labor and are sold with low-interest / no-interest loans. Habitat has helped more than 4 million people construct, rehabilitate or preserve more than 800,000 homes since its founding in 1976, making Habitat the largest not-for-profit builder in the world. The Red Cross provides critical disaster response support and helps with the distribution of blood donations across the world. There are many ways to give back from donating blood, volunteering for disaster recovery, making a monetary contribution and several other campaigns. Don’t just be a lump on a log. At least donate blood; a little goes a long way and could save a life.
The Peace Corps is an international, civil-volunteer program run by the federal government; established by President John F Kennedy in 1961. The Peace Corps includes providing technical assistance, helping people overseas to understand American culture, and introduce Americans to the cultures of other countries. A Peace Corps Volunteer, is an American citizen, typically with a college degree, working abroad for two years after three months of training. Volunteers work with governments, schools, non-profit organizations & NGO’s. In 55 years, 220,000 Americans have joined the Peace Corps and have served in 140 countries.
